Users with old devices such as iPhone 4 can't use Messenger on their phones
WhatsApp revealed last year that it may no longer be able to use some of the older devices. The Facebook-owned messaging app said support for Android devices that are up to OS 2.3.7 from February 1, 2020 will be discontinued.
WhatsApp's support foriOS 8 or below computers will also cease. Of KaiOS tablets, if they want to maintain the service, they have requested users to update to 2.5.1 + models. Furthermore, effective January 1, Windows devices no longer have WhatsApp.
Consumers with old devices such as iPhone 4 are practically unable to use WhatsApp on their tablets. But those with iPhone 4S are still protected since 9.3.6 was the last OS upgrade for these smartphones. Yet considering that the phone gets sluggish with the upgrade of iOS 8, it is highly unlikely that WhatsApp will be able to work.
There would be no help for anybody running Android Gingerbread phones for Android users. Google stopped support for these phones in 2017, but continuing support for WhatsApp means these phones will become feature-phones with little service.
The bad news for users of Windows. Since January onwards, none of Windows Phones — mostly Lumia devices — would have WhatsApp. WhatsApp also dropped out of Microsoft's shop last year.
WhatsApp is not the only service for these devices to discontinue support. Updates were also discontinued by the operators for these phones. Google ended Gingerbread support in 2017, Apple's last iPhone 4 update in 2015.
Around December 10, 2019, Microsoft stopped supporting Windows 10 Mobile. Before that, Windows 10's latest update was in October 2017. That means that these computers are no longer getting their manufacturers ' security updates or patches. It is therefore easy to hack these apps.
It is pointless that the messaging platform continues to cater for such devices in the midst of the WhatsApp hacking scandal. More critical, WhatsApp needs to keep its software up-to-date in order to be able to function on all devices, if it dumbs down its services for some phones, it will dumb it down for all. For most of these apps, Telegram discontinued help three year.
