The ministry has specified that during the implementation of the process, strict arrangements must be made to prevent data theft. The ECI is waiting for a formal go-ahead from the ministry since the recommendation is accepted.

The Supreme Court's pronouncement in Aadhaar case set aside Aadhaar's mandatoriness. The process was therefore halted for some time. Now ECI has requested that the process restart. This would help ECI get ghost voters off the list. That would also help to create an authentic genuine voters database.
Close to 38 Crore Voter ID cards were linked from Aadhaar cards in the process that began in 2015.
